BACK TO YOU IN NEW YORK, ALEXIS. >> ALL RIGHT, THANKS A LOT TO BOTH. I WANT TO CHECK IN WITH THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER, NOW. DEPUTY DIRECTOR MICHAEL BRENNAN LIVE WITH MORE. SO, MICHAEL, TELL US, WHAT ARE YOU SEEING HERE IS IN IS APPROACHING THE CAROLINA COAST? >> WE ARE SEEING THE CENTER AND NOW MOVING FASTER NORTHWARD AT 14 MILES AN HOUR. IT IS WHAT SEEMS TO BE A NEWLY DEVELOPING EYEWALL. IT IS ABOUT TO MOVE ON TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA COAST. BASICALLY, BETWEEN CHARLESTON AND THE GRAND STRAND OF MYRTLE BEACH AREA. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED. IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS, ABOUT THIS FOR A CANE. FORCE WINDS MOVING ON SHORE. THAT LIFE-THREATENING STORM SURGE STARTING TO INUNDATE COASTLINES. YOU CAN SEE 4 TO 7 FEET WITHIN THE NATION ABOVE GROUND LEVEL FROM THE I PALMS UP TO LITTLE RIVER. THAT IS WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE HIGHEST WATER LEVELS. THAT IS WHERE PEOPLE NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM RISING WATER NEAR THE COAST. YOU ARE GOING TO NEED TO BE IN A SAFE PLACE, NOW, FROM NOW UNTIL THE EVENING HOURS. >> HOW FAR INLAND ARE YOU EXPECTING HURRICANE IAN TO GO AT THIS POINT? >> THE CIRCULATION OF HIM IS GOING TO MOVE QUICKLY UP INTO EASTERN SOUTH CAROLINA AND CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA AS WE GO FROM TONIGHT INTO EARLY SATURDAY. THE WINDS ARE GOING TO DIE OFF BUT RAINFALL IS GOING TO BE AN INCREASING THREAT. EVERYWHERE YOU SEE RED HERE HAS A MODERATE RISK OF FLASH FLOODING. THAT IS THE AREA WE ARE MOST CONCERNED ABOUT. YOU CAN SEE IT EXTENDS OVER ALL OF EASTERN SOUTH CAROLINA. MUCH OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA, PIECES LIKE RALEIGH, CHARLOTTE, GREENSBORO, UP INTO VIRGINIA, THE TIDEWATER AREA, AND WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A WIDESPREAD, HEAVY RAINFALL EVENT. WE TEND TO LOSE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH FRESHWATER FLOODING EVENTS AND HURRICANES. ESPECIALLY IF THE DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD OR THEY ARE LEFT IN THE LOW LYING AREA AND WATER STARTS TO RISE. THE FLOODING DANGERS, ESPECIALLY, ACUTE AT NIGHT. OVERNIGHT TONIGHT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO WANT TO BE VERY TUNED INTO THE PROSPECT OF FLOODING, WHERE THEY, LIVE IN THE INLAND AREAS WILL BE READY TO TAKE
