EFFECTS THE GENERATIONAL DIVIDE FACING THIS. CONGRESSMAN, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TALKING WITH US. PRESIDENT BIDEN HAS ENDORSED YOU, PRAISING YOUR WORK, BRING COMMUNITY HEALTH DISTRICTS. MANY PEOPLE ARE CALLING FOR SWIFT ACTION FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS IN RESPONSE TO THIS RULING TO OVERTURN ROE V. WADE. WHAT MEASURES DO YOU PLAN TO PUSH FORWARD IN CONGRESS? >> WELL, THIS IS THE TIGHTEST RACE THAT I'VE EVER BEEN IN AND WHAT IT REALLY MEANS TO ME AND THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GOOD, SOLID, DEMOCRATS IS THAT WE ALL NEED TO BE WORKING TOGETHER. WE NEED TO BE UNIFIED. WE NEED TO BE GOING AFTER OTHER PARTIES AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS IN GROUPS WHO DON'T SHARE THE SAME VALUES THAT WE SHARE. WE NEED A MAJORITY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE CLOSE THIS DIVIDE, THAT WE FORGET ABOUT THE GENERATIONAL DIFFERENCES, AND COME TOGETHER AS UNIFIED FORCES. WE NEED TO UNIFY OUR THOUGHTS AND ACTIONS SO THAT WE CAN DEFEAT THE OTHER PARTY. WE DON'T HAVE AS MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OURSELVES AS WE HAVE BETWEEN OUR PARTY AND THE OTHER PARTY. I'M ON FOR UNIFICATION. I BELIEVE IN UNITY THEIR STRENGTH AN OPPORTUNITY. WE HAVE ALL OF THESE ISSUES NOW, THEY TAKE AWAY ROE V. WADE. THEY DENY HEALTH CARE FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO NEED IT JUST ON THE BASIS OF HEALTH, NOT ON THE BASIS OF ANYTHING ELSE. AND SO I AM ABOUT TRYING TO HELP UNIFY DEMOCRATS SO THAT WE CAN BE MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN WHAT WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN. >> ILLINOIS IS A SAFE HAZEN STATE, HOW IMPORTANT IS THAT AS AN ISSUE FOR YOUR CONSTITUENTS? >> IT IS AN IN VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE. ILLINOIS IS A STATE THAT CONTINUES TO MOVE, WE HAVE HAD GREAT LEADERSHIP IN OUR STATE, BUT WE HAVE TO MAINTAIN AND COME TOGETHER BECAUSE IF WE DON'T THEN RATHER THAN MOVING FORWARD WE WILL BE GOING BACKWARDS. I DON'T WANT TO GO BACKWARDS, PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO GO BACKWARDS. WE WANT TO GO AHEAD, WE WANT TO MOVE FORWARD, WE'VE GOT SOME HARD WORK TO DO TO RE-INSTITUTED SOME OF THE GAMES THAT WE HAVE MADE OVER THE LAST 50 YEARS THAT ARE BEING TAKEN AWAY FROM US. WE CANNOT ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN. >> I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU ABOUT THIS GENERATIONAL DIVIDE. THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE ENDORSED YOUR OPPONENT. DO YOU FEEL THAT THERE MIGHT BE ANY POINT THERE? DOES THE PARTY NEED NEED A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERS TO GALVANIZE? YOUR OPPONENT IS 31, YOU WILL BE 81 CONVERSELY COME ELECTION DAY. WELL -- >> THE BLOOD IS CONSTANTLY FLOWING AND IT'S CONSTANTLY CHANGING. IT HAS NEVER STOPPED CHANGING. THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF YOUNG INDIVIDUALS IN MY CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT, SOME OF WHOM I'VE BEEN A MENTOR TO WHO ARE READY TO STEP IN, READY TO TAKE THE LEAD, READY TO KEEP MOVING. I DON'T KNOW ALL THAT MUCH THAT JUST ON THE BASIS OF AGE AND TENURE, AND ENGAGEMENT, AND INVOLVEMENT, HAVE WORKED WHEN WE MANAGED TO GET ROE V. WADE INSTITUTED. IT WILL WORK AGAIN TODAY WHEN WE GET MEDICARE AND MEDICAID, AND SOCIAL SECURITY. THOSE TACTICS ARE THE SAME. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN MAKING USE OF A UNIFIED GROUP TO FOSTER IN THE CHANGES THAT WE NO NEED TO TAKE PLACE. I'M NOT SURE THAT THIS GENERATION IDEA IS SOMETHING THAT HAS TO SPLIT OUR PARTY AND ALTER OUR THINKING, AND DENY THE SUCCESSES THAT WE HAVE BEEN KNOWN FOR, AND GOOD FOR AMERICA. I THINK WE NEED EVERYBODY, WE NEED EVERYBODY IN THE FRAY. THIS IS A DEFINING MOMENT. I THINK IN THE END UNIFICATION IS REALLY THE KEY. THAT IS WHERE WE NEED TO BE HEADED. >> LASTLY, JUST IN THE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME WE HAVE HERE. I WANT TO ASK YOU ABOUT THE OTHER BIG ISSUE ON THE HEELS OF RECENT EVENTS, GUN VIOLENCE IS AN ISSUE THAT YOU AND MANY OF YOUR CONSTITUENTS ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH. HOW DO YOU TURN THE TIDE ON RISE IN GUN VIOLENCE? >> WELL, OF COURSE DEMOCRATS IN ILLINOIS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING CRIME WITH EVERY OUNCE OF ENERGY, STRENGTH, TOOTH AND NAIL ME. THE CITY OF CHICAGO HAS HAD SOME ORDINANCES THAT HAVE BEEN STRUCK DOWN BY THE SUPREME COURT SO WE NEED AS MUCH NATIONAL ASSISTANCE AS WE CAN GET. -- MANY OF THOSE BILLS NEVER SAW THE LIGHT OF DAY WHEN THEY GOT THROUGH THE SENATE. WE NEED A COMPREHENSIBLE BILL. WE HAVE TO ELECT PEOPLE IN ALL OF OUR STATES WHO CAN AGREE ON THESE ISSUES. IT IS A BIG ISSUE IN ILLINOIS, WE ALSO HAD ISSUES COMING OUT OF THE SUPREME COURT THAT HAVE NOT HELPED. I THINK THEY HAVE HURT. >> GHANI DAVIS, THANK YOU
