YORK. AND I AM PHILIP OFTEN UVALDA TEXAS WHERE THIS COMMUNITY OF 15,000 STILL GRAPPLING WITH TRYING TO WRAP THEIR HEADS AROUND TRYING TO UNDERSTAND AND MORE IN THE SECOND DEADLIEST SCHOOL SHOOTING IN OUR NATION'S HISTORY. AND THIS IS REALLY HOW IT IS MANIFESTING OUT FRONT OF ROB ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. WHEN WE GOT HERE IT WAS ONE BOUQUET OF FLOWERS, AND NOW IT IS 21 WHITE CROSSES, A NAME ON EACH OF THEM, FOR THE 19 STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. NOW THERE ARE CANDLES, THERE ARE BOUQUETS OF FLOWERS, DOZENS OF THEM. AND TEDDY BEARS. THERE ARE STUFFED ANIMALS ALMOST EVERY CROSS FOR THE STUDENTS WHO WERE KILLED. STUDENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE NOW DEMANDING ACTION, STATING WATCH COUNTS AT THEIR OWN SCHOOLS. WE ARE TALKING FROM VIRGINIA TO MICHIGAN. FROM WISCONSIN, TO CALIFORNIA. PRESIDENT BIDEN AND THE FIRST LADY WILL TRAVEL TO UVALDE ON SUNDAY, BUT WE ARE TOLD THAT THEY WILL MEET WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS, FAMILIES, AND VICTIMS. >> NOW ALL OF THIS COMES AS OFFICIALS ARE NOW TELLING A DIFFERENT STORY ABOUT HOW LONG IT TOOK OFFICERS TO ENTER THE SCHOOL, AND HOW THE SHOOTER HIMSELF GET IN. CHIEF NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT FOR GUTMAN IS OUTSIDE OF ROB ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WITH THE LATEST. >> PARENTS DEMANDING ANSWERS FROM LAW ENFORCEMENTS, IN SENSED THAT AN 18 OLD WAS ABLE TO GO IN AN HOUR-LONG RAMPAGE, KILLING 19 CHILDREN INTO THE TEACHERS. AUTHORITIES NOW ADMITTING, IT APPEARS THE GUNMAN ENTERED THE SCHOOL'S MAIN BUILDING FROM AN UNLOCKED DOOR. POLICE STUDYING THIS VIDEO, APPEARING TO SHOW HIM WALK IN. HE WALKED IN AND OBSTRUCTED, INITIALLY. OFFICIALS SAY AT AM, THE SUSPECT CRASHED HIS GRANDMOTHER'S CAR ON THE PERIMETER OF THE SCHOOL, GOT IT WITH AN AR STYLE RIFLE AND A BACKPACK FILLED WITH AMMUNITION, AND FIRED AT TWO WITNESSES AS HE MADE HIS WAY TOWARDS THE SCHOOL. THE FIRST 9-1-1 CALL WAS MADE AT AM. WHICH PROTOCOL STATES, SHOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY TRIGGERED A LOCKDOWN. OVER THE NEXT TEN MINUTES, POLICE SAY THE GUNMAN WALKED OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL, FIRING AT. HE CLIMBED OVER EVENTS, ENTERED THE BUILDING AT AM. AT AM, THE UVALDE SCHOOL DISTRICT, POSTING ON FACEBOOK THAT A LOCKDOWN WAS NOW IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE CAMPUS. BUT BY THEN, THE GUNMAN WAS ALREADY INSIDE. TEN YEAR OLD GEMMA LOPEZ, WITHIN THE CLASSROOM DOWN THE HALL. >> WHEN DID YOU NOTICE THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG? >> WELL, WHENEVER THE BULLET CAME THROUGH THE WALL. SO I TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS, BUT IT WENT TO THE TABLE. >> AND HAD YOU PRACTICED LOCKDOWN DRILLS? >> YEAH SINCE KINDERGARTEN OR PRE-K. >> BUT THIS TIME THERE WAS NO LOCKDOWN? . >> NO. >> AUTHORITIES SAY FOUR MINUTES AFTER THE SHOOTER ENTERED THE BUILDING, LAW ENFORCEMENT WAS INSIDER TOOK FIRE. THEY CALLED FOR ADDITIONAL RESOURCES STARTING TO FILM THE COMMOTION WAS JESSE ACROSS THE STREET. HIS VIDEO EXCLUSIVE TO ABC NEWS SHOWS OFFICERS TAKING COVER BEHIND A VEHICLE. DID YOU TELL THEM TO GO? AND I WAS YELLING LIKE WHY DON'T YOU GUYS GO IN WHAT YOU GUYS GOING. THE VIDEO THEN SHOWS A TEAM GOING IN BUT THEY HELD OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM. POLICE SAY TO FOCUS ON EVACUATING OTHER CHILDREN FROM THE SCHOOL. AS OUR SHE'S KEPT FILMING, THE CHAOS UNFOLDING IN THE STREET. PARENTS CLASHING WITH POLICE. DIANE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT RECENTLY DOUBLING ITS FUNDING AND ADDING EXTRA OFFICERS. THEY HAD DRILLED FOR JUST SUCH AN INCIDENT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO BUT INVESTIGATORS TELL ME THE MOST BASIC MEASURES MEANT TO SLOW DOWN AND ATTACKER WERE NOT IMPLEMENTED THINGS LIKE CALLING A LOCKDOWN EARLY, AND JUST KEEPING THE OUTSIDE DOORS LOCKED AND IT RAISES QUESTIONS WERE THERE ANY SUCH MEASURES CAN STOP A LONE WOLF ATTACK ARMED WITH A AR STYLE RIFLE ENTERING A BUILDING LIKE THAT. AND LET'S GET BACK TO PHILIP OFF FOR MORE. PHIL THAT IS THE QUESTION ON EVERYBODY'S MIND. IN THIS NEW TIMELINE OF EVENTS, POLICE SAY THE GUNMAN WAS SHOOTING OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL FOR 12 MINUTES BEFORE ENTERING THROUGH AN UNLOCKED DOOR. SO, WHY WASN'T THE SCHOOL LOCKED DOWN BY THAT POINT WELL THAT IS A GREAT? QUESTION, AND POLICE ARE LOOKING INTO THAT. SO YOU CAN EVEN BACK UP A LITTLE FURTHER FROM WHERE YOU JUST WERE DIANE AND ASK THE QUESTION OF COURSE IS VALID. A TEENAGER WITH AN AR-15, CAN YOU STOP HIM FROM KILLING SOMEONE IF HE WANTS TO DO IT? THAT NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED. TWO BUT REMEMBER, THIS SHOOTER POLICE A SHOT HIS GRANDMOTHER IN THE FACE FIRST. NOT FAR FROM HERE. SHE WAS ABLE TO STUMBLE OUT OF THE HOUSE, THERE IS A 9-1-1 CALL MADE, SO THE QUESTION IS, WHY WOULDN'T THE SCHOOL ON LOCKDOWN? DID THEY NOT HEAR THE LOCKDOWN CALL? THE DELUXE AND CALL NOT GO OUT? AND THEN YEAH, HE'S AROUND THE SCHOOL FOR 12 MINUTES SHOOTING AT THE SCHOOL. OBVIOUSLY PEOPLE WERE CONCERNED, AND CALLING ABOUT. THAT ANY OCTOBER OFFENSE, THEN HE GOT INTO A LOCKED DOOR. THESE ARE ALL THINGS THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT ARE GONNA HAVE TO SUSS OUT IN THE COMING DAYS. THEY >> SURE ARE, AND PHIL HOW DOES, THIS UPDATED TIMELINE CHANGE THE CONVERSATION AROUND HARDENING SOFT TARGETS LIKE SCHOOLS? >> I THINK THE ANSWER TO THAT DIANE IS IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE IN A COUNTRY. YOU TALK ABOUT HARDENING SOFT TARGETS LIKE SCHOOLS, IN THE AFTERMATH OF NEWTOWN IN CONNECTICUT MASSACHUSETTS, NEW JERSEY, RHODE ISLAND, IN THE NORTHEAST, THERE WERE A LOT OF PARENTS THAT I WAS SPEAKING TO AFTER THAT IS THAT I DON'T WANT GUNS IN MY SCHOOL. I DON'T WANT MY KIDS TO SEE OFFICERS CARRYING GUNS IN MY SCHOOL. HERE IN TEXAS, I AM TALKING TO PEOPLE AFTER THE SCHOOL SHOOTING, AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THEY NEED TO ARM TEACHERS. SO THE CONVERSATION DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ARE IN THIS COUNTRY, AND FEDERALLY WE KNOW WHERE. WE ARE THE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS NOT GETTING ANYTHING DONE EVER AFTER ONE OF THESE. SHOOTINGS >> YEAH WE ARE GONNA TOUCH MORE THAN A MOMENT, BUT PHIL, I WANT TO TALK ABOUT YET ANOTHER BIT OF HORRIBLE NEWS THAT COMES ON THE BACK OF THIS TRAGEDY. THE HUSBAND OF ONE OF THE TEACHERS KILLED IN THE SHOOTING HAS NOW DIED OF A HEART ATTACK. THEIR FOR CHILDREN OUTLAST BOTH PARENTS THIS WEEK. HOW IS THE COMMUNITY RALLYING AROUND THEM? >> THIS WAS THE TEACHER, AND AMBER GARCIA, WHO HAVE BEEN THE SCHOOL FOR 23. YEARS MARRIED TO HER HUSBAND JOE FOR 24 YEARS. THEY WERE HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEARTS. SHE WAS MURDERED, THE SCHOOL BEHIND ME TRYING TO KEEP HER OWN KIDS SAFE, AS THE SHOOTER WAS JUST SHOOTING UP THIS CLASSROOM. THAT IS HARD ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH. THEY HAD FOUR KIDS THEY THE OLDEST A MARINE BOOT CAMP, WHO WILL NOW OBVIOUSLY HAVE TO COME BACK TO BE WITH HIS FAMILY. THE YOUNGEST IN SEVENTH GRADE. TWO DAYS AFTER SHE WAS MURDERED HER HUSBAND JOE DIED OF A HEART ATTACK. WE'VE HEARD ABOUT BROKEN HEART SYNDROME, WHO KNOWS IF HE HAD A HEART CONDITION LEADING UP TO THIS, BUT WHATEVER WAS, TWO DAYS AFTER SHE DIED HE DIED. AND NOW THESE FOUR KIDS ARE LEFT WITHOUT ANY PARENTS. >> THAT IS SO SAD, I KNOW THEY'RE ABOUT TO CELEBRATE 25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. PHIL, WE ARE ALSO EXPECTING A PRESSING FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, THERE TODAY. THAT IS WHO WE HEARD FROM YESTERDAY, CLEANING UP SOME OF THE DETAILS OF THE STORY SO FAR. SO WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT WITH THEIR PLANNING TODAY? >> I'M NOT EXACTLY SURE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DIVULGE JUST TODAY, BUT I CAN TELL YOU FROM BEING AT THAT PRESS CONFERENCE YESTERDAY, AND SHOUTING OUT THE QUESTION THAT I WANTED AN ANSWER TO, WHICH I HEARD SO MANY OTHER REPORTERS ASKING. THEY REALLY NEED TO ANSWER THE QUESTION, EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS 40 MINUTES TO AN HOUR BEFORE THEY WENT IN AND KILLED THE SHOOTER. YEAH, THAT IS A PROBLEM IN OF ITSELF, THEY WILL PROBABLY TELL YOU THERE WAS NO SHOOTING GOING ON INSIDE THAT SCHOOL FOR THAT 40 MINUTES TO AN. OUR NOW THEY'RE CERTAINLY COULD HAVE BEEN. WE KNOW HE HAD, THE SHOOTER HAD A LOT OF, MAGAZINES YEN AIR 15. AND THERE ARE MORE KIDS, IN THAT SCHOOLS SO THAT IS CONCERNING. BUT THE REALLY CONCERNING PART FOR PEOPLE IN THIS COMMUNITY, AND THE QUESTIONS REPORTERS WANT ANSWERS TO TODAY, IS THE TWO OFFICERS WHO TOOK FIRE FROM THE SHOOTER AS THEY GOT SCHOOL PULLED BACK. THEY PULL BACK THEY CALLED FOR THINGS LIKE BODY ARMOR, AND A TACTICAL TEAM, AND YEAH SURE THOSE ARE THINGS THAT YOU WANT ONE BULLETS ARE FLYING, BUT SINCE COLUMBINE 23 YEARS AGO THE IDEAS TO GO RIGHT IN AND STOP THE THREAT. AND THOSE TWO OFFICERS DIDN'T DO THAT. THAT IS FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT. SO WE WANT TO KNOW WHY THEY DIDN'T DO THAT AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE HOPING TO GET OUT OF THE NEWS CONFERENCE TODAY. WE ARE ALSO LEARNING, DIANE, SOME NEW DETAILS ABOUT THE CHILDREN AND TEACHERS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES HERE. ABC'S MARIA REVEAL IS HERE IN UVALDE WITH ME AND HAS BEEN SPEAKING WITH THE FAMILIES, WHO EVEN THROUGH SUCH INTENSE GRIEF WANT TO SHARE STORIES OF THOSE THEY LOVE SO MUCH. WHEN HE WON IN THE CLASSROOM, HE SAID YOU ARE ALL GOING TO DIE. A >> CHILLING ACCOUNT FOR THE FIRST TIME OF WHAT WENT ON INSIDE THAT CLASSROOM, WERE MULTIPLE CHILDREN AND TEACHERS WERE FATALLY SHOT >> I WAS PLAYING DEAD, EMOTIONALLY. >> TEN YEAR OLD SON WHILE SALINAS, ONE OF THE FEW SURVIVORS WITH CLASS, NOW RECOVERY AFTER AN INJURY TO HIS LEG. >> HE SHOT MY, TEACHER AND THEN HE SHOT THE. KIDS I THINK HE WAS AIMING AT ME, LIKE THE THING, AND THEN HE LIKE, I GUESS ONE OF THE CHAIRS WHERE THERE SO IT BLOCKED IT AND THE PIECES WHEN IN MY LEG. >> MOST OF HIS FRIENDS AND CLASSMATES, NOT MAKING IT OUT ALIVE. >> I KIND OF DON'T FEEL SAFE GOING TO SCHOOL AND I FEEL HURT AND SOMETIMES THAT NIGHT I HAVE NIGHTMARES TOO. >> ALSO INSIDE THAT CLASSROOM, TEN YEAR OLD TEST MODEL. >> TEST ADORED HER BIG SISTER FAITH, LOVED MAKING TIKTOK. AND KEPT PEOPLE LAUGHING. >> SHE PUT A SMILE ON EVERYBODY 'S FACE, EVERY TIME SHE WAS DANCING. SHE ALWAYS HAD THE BIGGEST SMILE EVER. >> IF YOU HEAD TO THE SUN RODEO IS ALSO ONE OF THE VICTIMS. >> I LAST PIECE OF MY HEART. >> THE MOTHER FOR CENTRAL HELIO WAS LOVING, HAPPY, AND LIKED TO HELP. OTHERS >> I THINK ABOUT, HIM WHAT HAPPENED THAT DAY, AND WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THAT CLASSROOM. THAT HE WAS IN. HE WAS CRYING OUT FOR ME OR SOMETHING. I'M JUST, LIKE WHAT WAS HIS LAST WHEN HE SAW LAST. >> AND ALI GARCIA, SHE WAS KNOWN TO LOVE AND COUNT OH AND HER ABSOLUTELY, THE NOW-DELETED THOUGH WHO SAID EVERY TIME SHE SAW HER GRANDDAUGHTER, SHE WOULD RUN TO HER AND GIVE HER HUGS. >> SHE WOULD, SAY A GRANDMA I LOVE. YOU >> AND ALSO BEING REMEMBERED, NO VIA GRAVEL AND ALEXANDER RUBIO OR LEXI WASN'T ALL A HONOR STUDENT. HER MOTHER, CALLING HER BEAUTIFUL AND SMART. SHARING AND FACEBOOK WE TOLD HER WE LOVED HER AND WOULD PICK HER UP AFTER SCHOOL. WE HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS GOODBYE. UNIMAGINABLE TRAGEDY COMPOUNDED JUST IS AFTER TEACHER GARCIA WAS GUNNED DOWN, HER HUSBAND JOE GARCIA DYING OF A HEART ATTACK. THE TWO WERE ABOUT TO CELEBRATE THEIR 25TH AND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. ONE OF HIS FINAL MOMENTS, LAYING FLOWERS AT THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE'S MEMORIAL. THEY NOW LEAVE BEHIND FOUR CHILDREN, SEEN HERE AT A MASS FOR THE FAMILY HELD IN THE PASTORS EMBRACE. >> SEVERAL OF THE VICTIMS ARE STILL RECOVERING HERE IN SAN ANTONIO. ONE FAMILY TELLING ME AS THEIR SON GRADUALLY STARTS TO TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED, IT IS DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO SHARE. BUT AS A PARENT, IT IS EXCRUCIATING TO LISTEN TO WHAT THEIR CHILD WENT THROUGH ON THAT AWFUL DAY. DIANE. >> I'M SURE, IS MARIA VERITY, OUR THANK. YOU AND SCENES OF SCHOOLS CROSS THE COUNTRY ARE NOW WALKING AT A CLASSROOM PROTEST AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE. AND LAWMAKERS REFUSAL TO IMPLEMENT BROADLY SUPPORTED GUN LEGISLATION. AND ABC NEWS WASHINGTON POST FOUND THAT 98% OF AMERICANS SUPPORT UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS. AND 86% PERCENT PER SUPPORT RED FLAG LAWS THAT WOULD ALLOW LAW ENFORCEMENT TO TEMPORARILY CONFISCATE GUNS FROM PEOPLE TEMPTED TO BE DANGEROUS. SOME REPUBLICANS SAY THEY'RE WILLING TO TALK TO DEMOCRATS JUST FIND OUT IF BIPARTISAN SOLUTIONS ARE WITHIN. REACH RACHEL SCOTT HAS THE LATEST. MARYLAND JOINS ME FOR MORE ON. THIS >> WE ARE SEEING A GLIMMER OF HOPE ON THIS, SOME BIPARTISAN GROUPS OF ABOUT TEN MEMBERS MEETING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. IT WAS SIGNIFICANT. I WILL SAY THE REPUBLICAN SENATE LEADER MITCH MCCONNELL GAVE HIM THE GREENLIGHT. OBVIOUSLY NOTHING IS GOING TO GET DONE ON CAPITOL HILL UNLESS THE LEADERS ON BOTH PARTIES SIGNED OFF ON THE TALKS. I DON'T IMAGINE THAT IF ANYTHING GETS DONE IT WILL BE SWEEPING. IT WILL PROBABLY BE PRETTY NARROW IN SCOPE. STILL, EVEN IF THEY WERE TO PASS SOMETHING NARROW IN SCOPE, SOMETHING MODEST, IT WOULD BE THAT ALONE WOULD JUST BE SUCH A SEA CHANGE. SO I THINK THAT EVERYBODY HERE IN WASHINGTON IS KIND OF HOLDING THEIR BREATH SEEING IF ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN, BECAUSE AT LEAST BOTH SIDES ARE TALKING. MEANWHILE FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP, SENATOR TED CRUZ, ANOTHER PROMINENT REPUBLICANS ARE SCHEDULED TO SPEAK AT AN NRA CONVENTION HOUSTON TODAY. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THAT? >> YEAH LIKE YOU SAID, FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP IS THE HEADLINER. HERE HE IS REALLY THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER. THERE'S GONNA BE A LOT OF ATTENTION JUST ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SAID, JUST DAYS AFTER THE SHOOTING JUST A FEW HUNDRED MILES FROM WHERE IT HAPPENED. GOVERNOR ABBOTT, TEXAS GOVERNOR ABBOTT DID PULL OUT OF HIS PUBLIC REMARKS. HE'S NOW JUST SENDING A VISIT TO VIDEO MESSAGE. BACK AT SENATOR CRUZ STILL SLATED TO SPEAK. A NUMBER OF OTHER REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS WILL BE THERE. THOUSANDS OF ADVOCATES AND NRA MEMBERS. WE'RE ALSO EXPECTING SIGNIFICANT PROTESTS. GUN SAFETY ADVOCATES WILL BE. PRESIDENT THEY WANNA MAKE SURE THAT THEIR PRESENCE KNOWN AND I THINK THAT ALL EYES ARE GOING TO BE ON THAT CONVENTION, AS PEOPLE WANT TO SEE WHAT THAT LARGE LOBBYING GROUP IS WILLING TO TALK ABOUT, AND WHEN ANSWERS THEY HAVEN'T THEY'RE CONTINUING TO BE PRESSED ABOUT WHETHER THEY WOULD GET BEHIND OR SUPPORT, OR AT LEAST NOT GET IN THE WAY OF ANY KIND SAFETY MEASURES. >> NOW, MARY ALICE, TEXAS GOVERNOR GREG ABBOTT BLAME TO THE MASS SHOOTING A MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. BUT ADVOCATES POINT OUT, THAT HE HAS DIVERTED STATE FUNDS AWAY FROM AGENCIES THAT OVERSEE MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS, AND THE NONPROFIT GROUP MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA FOUND THE TEXAS RANKED LAST IN THE NATION WHEN IT COMES TO ACCESS TO MENTAL CARE. SO, HOW ARE LAWMAKERS ADDRESSING THAT SIDE OF THE ISSUE? >> YEAH, DIANE, THIS IS KIND OF A SAD IRONY IN ALL OF. THIS WE SO OFTEN HEAR REPUBLICANS SAY THIS IS THE MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEM, MENTAL HEALTH EPIDEMIC. AND YET WE ARE NOT SEEING MONEY SPENT TO SUPPORT THAT THEORY, TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. NOT ONLY IN TEXAS, BUT REALLY ACROSS THE COUNTRY. OWNERS ON THE STATS WITH YOU, THEY ARE JUST REALLY STARK. REALLY TOUGH. 38 MILLION PEOPLE LIVE IN TEXAS, IN A COUNTY WHERE THEY'RE MORE ACCESS TO GUNS, IT IS EASIER TO GET AGAIN THEN MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. AND IT IS REALLY AN ISSUE NATIONWIDE. AT LEAST 1500 COUNTIES IN THE U.S., HAVE MORE FIREARM DEALERS THEN MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS. THAT IS ACCORDING TO FEDERAL DATA. THERE ARE 570 COUNTIES WITH ABSOLUTELY ZERO MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDERS. AND IN 41 COUNTIES, TAKE A LISTEN TO THIS. 41 COUNTIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AT LEAST TEN TIMES AS MANY GUN DEALERS AS MENTAL CARE PROVIDERS. SO WE JUST CONTINUE TO SEE, IN RELATIVE COMPARATIVE TERMS, SO MUCH EASIER ACCESS, SO MUCH JUST AN EASY ACCESS TO WEAPONS AND SUCH A HARD TIME FINDING METAL SERVICES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. AND LIKE YOU SAID, ESPECIALLY IN TEXAS. EVEN IF PEOPLE WANTED TO GET HELP, EVEN IF THEY WANTED TO GET HELP FOR THEIR LOVED ONES, IT CONTINUES TO BE SUCH A CHALLENGE. >> A SAD BUT TRUE REALITY, MARY ALICE PARKS, THANK. YOU AND YOU STAY WITH, US WILL BE BACK WITH MORE THE DAYS OTHER TOP STORIES, WELCOME BACK. TODAY CLOSING ARGUMENTS BEGIN IN THE DUAL DEFAMATION TRIAL BETWEEN JOHNNY UP AN AMBER. HEARD THIS RETURNS AFTER HER AGENDA STAND YESTERDAY THE MOTIONS TESTIMONY. ABC'S TREVOR AULT AS A. LATEST >> AFTER SIX WEEKS OF BRUTAL TESTIMONY, IT 30 TAILS, AND BOMBSHELL ACCUSATIONS, WE ARE EXPECTING CLOSING ARGUMENTS IN THE DEFAMATION TRIAL BETWEEN JOHN NEED TO HAVE BEEN AMBER HEARD. >> I AM NOT SITTING IN THIS COURTROOM LAUGHING, SMILING, MAKING SNIDE JOKES. I AM NOT. THIS IS HORRIBLE. THIS IS PAINFUL. >> ON THURSDAY, HEARD TAKING THE STAND FOR THE FINAL TIME IN ANOTHER CONTENTIOUS CROSS-EXAMINATION WITH DEPTH ATTORNEY. >> MISS HEARD, YOU JUST TESTIFIED THAT THIS CASE HAS BEEN VERY HARD FOR YOU. SO LET'S TALK ABOUT THAT. AND WHY. WE YOU ARE LIES OF BEEN EXPOSED TO THE WORLD, MULTIPLE TIMES, RIGHT? >> I HAVE A LIGHT ABOUT ANYTHING. >> ON THE STAND, HERDS ACCUSED DEPTH OF SEVERAL INSTANCES OF DOMESTIC UNEMOTIONAL, USE ALL OF WHICH TOP TONIGHT. HIS LEGAL TEAM TRYING TO POINT OUT INCONSISTENCIES IN HERDS TESTIMONY, WITH WITNESSES CONTRADICTING HER ACCOUNT. >> I KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL COME OUT AND SAY, WHATEVER FOR HIM. THAT IS HIS POWER. >> AND IN TAKING QUESTIONS FROM HER OWN LEGAL, TEAM HEARD SAYS THE WORST PARTS OF HER LIFE WERE NOT BEING USED TO HUMILIATE. ARE WE >> I.M. HARASSED, HUMILIATED, THREATENED, EVERY SINGLE DAY. PEOPLE WANT TO KILL ME. AND THEY TELL ME SO. EVERY DAY. >> FOLLOWING TODAY'S CLOSING ARGUMENTS, THE JURY IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DELIBERATING. DECIDING AT THE 2018 WASHINGTON POST OP-ED, HEARD WROTE LABELING HERSELF REPRESENTING A PUBLIC FIGURE REPRESENTING DOMESTIC CVS CONTAINED FALSE CLAIMS. AND IF SO, WHETHER THOSE CLAIMS DAMAGED UPS. CAREER >> WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO RECLAIM AFTER THIS IS? OVER EIGHT >> JOHNNY'S TAKING ENOUGH OF MY VOICE. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO TELL MY STORY, I HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME, I HAVE THE RIGHT TO MY VOICE MY NAME. WE >> I THANKS TO TRAVEL ARE FOR THAT REPORT. LET'S BRING IN LEGAL ANALYST TERROR-Y OFFMAN ON FOR MORE ON. THIS TERRY, THANKS FOR BEING HERE. WHEN YOU THINK EACH SIDE WILL FOCUS ON DURING THIS CLOSING? ARGUMENTS >> DEFINITELY DEPP'S TEAM IS FOCUSING ON THE FACT THAT AMBER HEARD HAS TOLD MULTIPLE LIES. SHE CLAIMS SHE HAS BEEN KICKED, BEATEN, PUNISHED BY DEEP. AND IN FACT SHE HAS NO INJURIES TO SUPPORT THAT. AND WE ARE HEARING CAMILLE, ABOUT THE CLOSING STATEMENT. AND SHE'S BASICALLY SHOWING PICTURES THAT THERE ARE NO INJURIES, AND IF DESPERATELY TO DETER LIKE THIS THROUGHOUT THE RELATIONSHIP, SHE WOULD HAVE THOSE INJURIES, SHE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN SOUGHT MEDICAL TREATMENT, AND WE HAVE NONE OF THAT. >> NATURALLY, BOTH JOHNNY DOESN'T EVER HEARD WERE CALLED BACK TO THE STAND THIS WEEK. WHAT WAS THE STRATEGY AND DOING THAT AND HOW MUCH OF A ROLE DO YOU THINK THESE FINAL TESTIMONIES WILL PLAY IN THE OUTCOME? >> WELL I THINK THE STRATEGY WAS BECAUSE, THAT WOULD BE THE LAST WORD. BOTH UP AND HEARD WANT THAT TO BE THE LAST THING THE JURY HEARS, AND I THINK IT WAS A GOOD STRATEGY. THE CROSS EXAMINATIONS BY KAMILA ACTUALLY WERE SEAMLESS. SHE IN FACT GOT UP THERE AND CROSS-EXAMINED AMBER HEARD, AND POINTED OUT EACH AND EVERY LIE THAT SHE MADE. AND SHE MADE LIES IN CONNECTION WITH WHEN SHE WAS IN HICKSVILLE, SHE MADE LIES IN TERMS OF WHAT WAS GOING ON WHEN THEY WERE IN THE ISLAND, AND SHE MADE SURE THAT THE JURY UNDERSTOOD THAT NONE OF THIS COULD'VE POSSIBLY HAPPENED. SO I THINK THAT PUTTING BOTH OF THE INDIVIDUALS ON THE STAND, REALLY DOES HELP THE CASE. THE PROBLEM IS, WHEN THIS CROSS-EXAMINATION, AND I DO THINK BOTH JAB AND HEARD HAD A LITTLE BIT OF TROUBLE ON CROSS EXAMINATION. HEARD, BASICALLY WAS SHOWN TO BE A LIAR, AND UP BASICALLY GOT A LITTLE BIT MORE UPSET THAN HE DID. >> AND, TERRY A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE TESTIFIED ABOUT THE COURSE OF THIS TRIAL. OTHER ANY BIG MOMENTS THAT YOU THINK STANDUP? >> WELL I THINK ONE OF THE BIGGEST MOMENTS REALLY WAS WHEN WE SAW CAMILLE CROSS EXAMINING AMBER HEARD AND IT MADE HER LOOK LIKE SHE WAS A LIAR. AND SHE COULD NOT REFUTE ALL OF THAT EVIDENCE. PARTICULARLY WHEN SHE TALKED ABOUT DEPTH FINGER BEING INJURED, AND YET SHE CLAIMS THAT HE ABUSED HER SEXUALLY WITH A BOTTLE. I THINK THAT WAS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRIAL. >> ALL RIGHT, TERRY OFTEN, THANK YOU FOR THAT. WE >> THANK YOU. >> WE WILL BE RIGHT BACK. WEWELCOME BACK TO ABC NEWS LIVE.
