INTO THOSE BIG NAMES, NOT COMING THROUGH AT THIS POINT. THAT IS BACK TO YOU. >> COURTNEY CARPENTER FROM -- STUDENTS AT SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE WALKING OUT OF CLASS, PROTESTING AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE AND LAWMAKERS REFUSAL TO LEGISLATE BROADLY SUPPORTED GUN LEGISLATION. -- POLL FOUND 80% OF AMERICANS SUPPORT UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON GUN PURCHASES. 86% SUPPORT RED FLAG LAWS THAT ALLOW COURTS TO TEMPORARILY CONFISCATE WEAPONS FROM PEOPLE DEEMED TO BE A DANGER TO THEMSELVES OR OTHERS. NOW, SOME REPUBLICAN SENATORS SAY THEY ARE WILLING TO TALK WITH DEMOCRATS TO SEE A BIPARTISAN SOLUTIONS ARE WITHIN REACH. WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT MARY ALICE PARKS JOINS ME LIVE FOR MORE ON THAT. MARY ALICE, HOW MUCH MOVEMENT HAS THAT BEEN ON CAPITOL HILL WHEN IT COMES TO GIVING AT LEAST SOME OF THESE MORE POPULAR MEASURES ONTO THE FLOOR? >> YES I, AND I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT. SOME OF THESE GUN SAFETY MEASURES ARE SO WILDLY POPULAR. THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF AMERICANS ARE ASKING CONGRESS TO IMPLEMENT THEM. AND I THINK THAT THOSE THINGS, LIKE UNIVERSAL GAS BACKGROUND CHECKS AND RED FLAG LAWS ARE EXACTLY THE KIND OF PROPOSALS THAT ARE ON THE TABLE WITH A BIPARTISAN GROUP OF SENATORS. WE WILL SEE IF THEY CAN COME TO AN AGREEMENT. IT WAS INTERESTING THAT SENATE REPUBLICAN SENATE LEADER MITCH MCCONNELL GAVE THE GREENLIGHT FOR THIS GROUP TO WORK. SENATOR SCHUMER, THE DEMOCRATIC LEADER, SAID THAT THEY HAD ABOUT TEN DAYS. HE IS TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT THE URGENCY IS MAINTAINED. THE SENATORS -- BUT THEY SAY THEY WILL CONTINUE TO WORK. WE WILL SEE IF THEY COME BACK WITH THAT PROPOSAL, BUT AT LEAST HAS SOME BIPARTISAN SUPPORT. >> PRESIDENT BIDEN AND THE FIRST LADY ARE SET TO VISIT UVALDE THIS WEEKEND. WHAT IS ON THEIR AGENDA? >> THEY ARE PLANNING TO MEET WITH FAMILIES OF VICTIMS. OBVIOUSLY, IT IS A SMALL TOWN. WE HAVE HEARD THOSE STORIES ABOUT EVERYBODY IS A PERSONAL CONNECTION TO SOMEBODY WHO HAS LOST THEIR LIFE OR WAS THERE THAT THEY. WE ARE IN THE MEET WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS, FAITH LEADERS. I THINK IT REALLY JUST WANT TO LEND SUPPORT AND LOVE IN THIS MOMENT OF GRIEF. >> NOW, TEXAS GOVERNOR GREG ABBOTT IS BLAMING THE MASS SHOOTING ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. WHERE DOES TEXAS STAND WITH MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT? AND HOW DO LEADERS THERE, WHAT IS THEIR RECORD? HOW ARE LAWMAKERS TRYING TO ADDRESS THE SIDE OF THE ISSUE? >> A LOT OF ADVOCATES ARE CALLING ATTENTION TO THIS. REALLY FRUSTRATED THAT GOVERNOR ABBOTT HAS BEEN MAKING THIS POINT. BECAUSE I KNOW THAT ACTUALLY IN TEXAS, THERE'S BEEN A REAL GETTING OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. SO MANY MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDERS HAVE HAD TO LEAVE THE STATE. A LACK OF FUNDING, CLINICS CLOSING DOWN. TEXAS RANKING NEAR THE BOTTOM NATIONWIDE IN ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. LOOK AT THE STATS ON THE SCREEN RIGHT NOW. REALLY STARK. NEARLY 4 MILLION TEXANS LIVE IN COUNTIES WHERE THERE IS MORE ACCESS TO GUNS. MORGAN DEALERSHIPS AVAILABLE THEN MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. AND IT IS AN ISSUE WE'RE SEEING ACROSS THE COUNTRY, DIANE. 1500 COUNTIES IN THE U.S. HAVE MORE GUN DEALERS AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDERS. INTO THIS ONE, TWO. 570 COUNTIES HAVE ZERO, ABSOLUTELY, NO MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDERS. THAT IS ACCORDING TO FEDERAL DATA. THAT'S NUMBER IS REALLY SHOCKING. 41 COUNTIES IN THE COUNTRY HAVE TEN TIMES AS MANY GUN DEALERS AS A MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS. SO REALLY, YOU JUST FEEL FOR THOSE OF FAMILIES, WHO MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT, BUT ARE STRUGGLING TO FIND IT. AND THEN PEOPLE WANTING TO COMMIT CRIMES. WHO ARE SO ABLE TO QUICKLY
