Transcript for NY grand jury investigating Trump set to reconvene
- The New York grand jury investigating the former president is set to reconvene today. Aaron Katersky is at the courthouse in downtown Manhattan with more on the hush-money payment case. Good morning, Aaron.
- Robin, good morning to you. Former President Trump thought he would be arrested by now, but the next chance for an indictment could come today. The grand jury did not convene as scheduled on Wednesday. And the next-- they are expected back this afternoon and may hear from one additional witness, at least one.
The most recent witness was Trump ally Bob Costello. He told grand jurors they should not rely on Michael Cohen, who has said that Trump directed him to pay off porn actress Stormy Daniels and then booked it as a legal expense. Trump declined an offer to testify, an invitation that prosecutors typically extend only to potential defendants when criminal charges seem likely.
Trump has called for protest. And while there are more police and barricades around here, so far few seem to have taken up his call. Now, Trump is also fighting to keep one of his attorneys from testifying, as part of the special counsel investigation into his handling of classified materials. But a federal appeals court last night refused and that attorney could testify as soon as tomorrow. Michael.
- Yeah, a lot going on there, Aaron. Thank you so much.
